Looking through some old bits and pieces the other day, I came across Seona’s Baby Album. Twenty five years ago we were not much into photography; never really thinking about the need to ‘preserve the moment’. But not to dwell on regrets.
I thought I might scan one of the photos to do a scrapbook layout. AAARGHHH! When I went to take the photo out I discovered it was starting to become welded to the page. Curse those crappy sticky paged albums of the 70s and 80s! Fortunately all was not lost. I managed to coax the photos out of the album intact. I decided that, since I only had a few baby photos anyway, I’d make a mini album for them.
So I designed the mini album in digital form , and then hand made a book and replicated the digital pages in the hand scrapped format. By that I don’t mean I printed out the pages, I mean that I printed out elements and combined them with ribbons and charms to make up the book. Hmmm, when I read that, it sounds a bit crazy. In fact, it sounds a lot crazy. But I wanted to include hidden journaling behind the photos to tell the story and use pockets to get more photos on the page. The album is only 6 inches square so I didn’t have a lot of room to pack all that I wanted on the pages and still keep the photos at a reasonable size.
Anyway, I’m quite pleased with how it came out – in both formats. Please take a look at the digital version and tell me what you think.

That’s an awesome album, mum! Can’t wait to see the real thing!
And it even includes the picture of me with no teeth.
I always liked that one.
Boy, that sounds like a lot of work! I remember those sticky albums. I hated them then and still do!
Love your daughter’s album! I grew up in the 70′s, so I’m quite familiar with those horrible sticky albums! I also thought it was great that your daughter’s baptismal gown was made from your wedding gown. We had my daughter’s made from my mother’s wedding gown.
I’ve not gotten into digital scrapbooking. I like playing with my paper too much! But, I do think you’ve done some really cool things with your pages. Thanks for sending me the link!
I actually made a ‘real’ version of tha album too, Dianne which I have sitting on a stand in front of me as I play with the computer. I often find it easier to play with ideas in a digital form and then make the hand scrapped pages.
