Geography … you’re standing in it!

It’s shaping up to be a cold winter in Melbourne.

Now before all those folk in Mid-West America, Scotland, Canada and North Lapland throw up their hands in disgust and start yelling at their monitor “Melbourne, what would you know about cold?!”, let me just say that I realise there are many places that get far colder than here. But that’s the way it’s supposed to be. That’s the natural order of things.

But in Melbourne it is not supposed to be 1°Celcius at the beginning of June!

That is not what I signed up for. So what’s going on here? I, and my 17,999,999 compatriots, turn to the rest of the World and ask “What are you doing to us?”

I read that Northern Hemisphere folk are experiencing warmer Summers than they have been used to in years gone by. It’s my contention that Northern Hemisphere countries are stealing our weather! Temperature is obviously a finite resource and I’m thinking there are only so many degrees to go around. So as I break the ice on my windscreen in the morning and grope my way through the fog to work I rain down curses on those who are, even now, basking in stolen Melbourne weather.

And I reckon the UN should send an investigation team to North Lapland, ‘cos I suspect they may be at the centre of this conspiracy.

I loved this post! It is 23C (73F) here at 8:30am and I’m already boiling. I live in South Carolina which has got to be the most humid place on the earth! I would gladly blow some of this warm air to you for a little cool breeze! I would love for some of my students to see some cold weather in the winter for some snow. All we ever get are bad ice storms which wreak havoc on the our electric lines! I will think warm thoughts for you!

I am sorry. We are having wonderful weather here in Michigan. Believe me, I would send you some if I could. I escape the heavy winter by heading for the tropics each year, but you need to be OLD to do that. SInce every place has its drawbacks, being a “snowbird” is the only answer I can think of. Move around with the weather.

Well, it is something to think about in the future when you retire.

Great post, it really made me smile :o ) We’re having some of that hot weather you want to pinch back, although thankfully it’s cooled down a bit today :o )

LOLOLOLOL!!!! I love it! And you may take every bit of the heat here and keep it for yourself! I’m a cold weather gal, melting in the humidity of early summer. Thanks for the laugh!

Forget the weather.

The question really is WHY WOULD ANYBODY LIVE IN SCOTLAND?

Not only is it always cold, grey & miserable but they don’t even speak English!

At least Lapland is famous for it’s female dancers.

And another thing, it’s 2006 & I think it’s time North Carolina & South Carolina got over their differences and became a full Carolina. Or is the North part still communist like Korea?

Our thermometers would explode up here in Brissie if the temp got that low ! LOL It has been REALLY cold up here too, since late May. I think around 5 degrees is the lowest we’ve had – which, for us is FREEZING!

I’ll just pack up this miserable, unseasonably hot June we’re having here in Florida and fly it on down to you. And you can keep it. I mean, sure, it’s Florida, but we’re having heat that even Florida is not supposed to get until July or August. I’d kill for a cool breeze!

I think we*, fellow antipodeans (in all 4 hemispheres), also had 1 C in June. Now it is up to 20 on a hot day and the mozzies have finally charged their batteries.
