Scrapbook Challenge - scrapbook layout about you

Welcome to Scraps of Mind. I'm delighted to see you. Why not check out the site, and if you like what you see, subscribe to my RSS feed and get daily updates delivered to you. If you're not sure what the RSS thing is, then check out this 'RSS made easy' post. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing more of you.

Many of us struggle to scrapbook about ourselves. I’ll be the first to put up my hand and own up to this ‘failing’. Hey I’m only just starting to deal with tolerating (some) photos of myself. So here’s a challenge to all scrapbookers out there:

Post a layout about yourself on your blog and link it back to this post.

It’s important that you post the link to this post in your own post (I hope that makes sense) because I’m trying out a little tracking experiment. If you do thisĀ I should recieve an automatic notification that you have ‘pinged’ me. This will be the subject of a future blogging tips post.

At the end of May I will post a list of links to all your layouts so everyone can go and ‘visit you’.

This has a double bonus because not only will you be challenged to start scrapping about yourself, but as a scrapbook blogging community we can get to know each other a little better and maybe put a face to the name.

There’s no real rules about what perspective you want your layout to take, but if you have any questions then please post a comment. Chances are that other people will be wondering the same thing so don’t be shy to ask. Remember there are no dumb questions…only dumb answers.

Everyone’s welcome to join in. And we might get to meet some new scrappin’ tragics along the way.

So are you up for it? Let me know. And then let’s go do it.

  2. Hope I’ll have time to do this, Karen, as I have some great BOM ideas just waiting in the wings :-)

By Hannah on May 14, 2007

  3. It’s a great idea Karen - if I get time I might just give it a go!

By Sheree on May 14, 2007

  4. Can I just blow my own trumpet here?? I have no problems scrapping me. Now I have to admit two years ago I did. I figure if no one tells my story who will. Count me in!! The challenge for me is finding the time to do this. But with my timetable this will be do-able.

  5. I just did one yesterday! Will post that one some time tomorrow. :)

  6. What a great idea Karen. I’ll try to find some time to do this.

  7. Hannah, Sheree, Janine, Michelle, Sharon, great to have you on board. Hope you do manage to get one done. Don’t forget you can use ‘one you prepared earlier’ too.
Just remember to link to this post when you put it on your blog because then I can track it easily (there’ll be a future blogging tips post coming up about this)

  8. I just did one for SNL so I guess I can post it on my blog as well… Boy are you a hard taskmaster, LOL. Will come back as soon as it is posted.

By Tink on May 15, 2007

  9. Hi Tink
You don’t need to let me know when you post it. If you put a link to my post in your post then I will be automatically notified.

Glad you’re going to join us.

  10. Hi Karen, absolutely, listen out for a ping from me in the near future - great idea!

By pacifictonz on May 15, 2007

  11. Thanks for joining in the challenge Kim and Toni. I’ve picked up your pings and got you on my list.

  12. Karen–you are quite the task master–getting people back up their blogs (actually quite painless) to write haiku (challenging) and now you want us to scrap about ourselves (difficult but another great idea). I’ll give it a go, but I’m working quite a bit at the real job in the next few days–say by the 21st or is that too late? Waiting for the lesson on pings and trackbacks etc. Love your new blog topper btw, and your tag cloud too. Andrea

  13. I am impressed by how many people I “know” here! Do old layouts count? I have this one which is a little …err…different:

I do make a point to scrap myself every now and again after reading Angie Pedersen’s Book of Me many years ago in my paper scrapping days. This challenge would be a great one to combine with the NZ Dare blog challenge:

  14. Sorry Andrea, but after your stellar performance in the haiku department (not to mention backing up your blog) I know you’re up for the challenge.

Picked up your layout Leslie. Good luck with the surgery.

Doesn’t matter if your layout is ‘one you prepared earlier’ Sharon. Chances are many folk haven’t seen it so it will be new for them. I’ve added you to the list.

  15. I just posted and I linked - hoping it pings!! I know NOTHING about pinging Karen!!! Let me know. I do a series of My Life’s Journey challenges which are similar to “All About Me” challenges so I did a page for that and posted in on my blog. This is a terrific challenge!! Thanks!

  16. Oh - here is the link, just in case…

And, I guess I should say that I was on Angie P’s design team for One Scrappy Site and she is my mentor for all thigns BOM! What a great gal!

  17. Hi Karen.. Wow! Thanks for this challenge. Is it ok to post a layout I did some time back? :)

    By ~ AM ~ on May 17, 2007

  18. Absolutely Anne Marie. This is about getting to know each other a bit better so it doesn’t matter if you use one ‘that you prepared earlier’.
Mackey have you got Trackbacks and Pingbacks allowed in your blog set up.
You might like to go into your Dashboard and select Options from the menu then Discussion.
There’s a list of checkboxes. In the first group is Allow Trackback and Pingbacks. You should have this checked if you want to know when other people are metioning/linking to your blog in their posts.
But I’ve picked up your contibution and added it to the VIsitors List.

  20. Hi Karen - lazy link back to you as I’d already posted a BOM page in my previous post! I did however link back to this challenge specifically so hopefully you get a pingback?

By scrappydo on May 18, 2007

  21. Thanks Corina and Kelly I’ve picked up your pings. I’m learing a lot from this. Hope it will all make some sense in my future post.

By Karen on May 18, 2007

  22. Okay on my blog I already did a photo of me last week so I just added your link to my photo and also before my credits I put the link. Hope that’s right.
