Well it would seem that in the world of blog and web sites WIKIs are the new black.

What is a WIKI you ask?

Well those of you who’ve used the most famous WIKI site Wikipedia, will have some idea what I’m talking about. WIKIs are collaborative web sites where users get to contribute and add to the content using an easy “click, edit, save” interface. Like a giant community blog that’s easy to work with and enables you to be a contributor the community knowledge pool.

And if you want to see what I mean and try it out I recommend you head on over to the Digi Scrap Collaborative Community at Digital Scrap Wiki.

Digital Scrap Wiki is a website where the readers are also the writers, where you can create and edit the content.

The idea is that it gets better with time and participation.

I created this site as there are so many digital scrapbooking sites there and it can be so hard to get started. Sure, there are plenty of message boards and I don’t want to replace them just create a place where we can find them all.

Tracey (aka Tallynt)

Once you register with the site you can easily add articles, create new pages, update information and pretty much add anything you like about digital scrapbooking. You the user, get to build it into what you want it to be.

Digital Scrap Wiki

And the really beaut part is that it’s so easy to do. You don’t need any technical knowledge. Really just basic Word skills are all you need. Just click on the EasyEdit button at the top left of the main column, an editing tool panel opens and the web page becomes a ‘document’ that you can edit like any other Word document, add links to it if you like and then click Save for it to turn back into a web page.

In a fit of possibly misguided faith, Tracey has asked me to be a moderator for the site. I think that involves just helping people out when they’re not sure about something.

Digital Scrap Wiki is still very new so it’s a great time to be getting involved with it and help guide its evolution into the kind of resource you would like it to be. So hop on over and check it out, register with the site and be a player not a spectator. It should be a bunch of fun.

Oh, and let me know what you think.

  3. It is a great site - although I am still getting used the the interactive technology. I am very glad you are moderating over there - it is comforting to know someone we can ask for help if we modify content in the wrong place (as I have already done and you saved me!) I hope to get more familiar with the site - there are lots of neat people in the community. Thanks for being willing to help on the site!

  8. Hi, great article! And I am glad you are a moderator as well. You are very welcoming and will be fabulous. =)

I can’t wait to see what everyone starts to add. It is amazing how much is there already. I think I started the wiki on the 18th of April but didn’t really do anything with it until the beginning of May so all of this has happened in less than 2 months.

  9. If you’ve got any ideas Martha just jump on and create a page. I just did that and it’s so easy.

Thanks Tracy it looks like being a fun experience
