Amy from Earnest Parenting ( a pretty cool blog on all things parenting, in case you couldn’t guess from the title) tagged me for this meme. It’s a little bit different to the ones I have been tagged with before so I think that makes it a bit more interesting. Here’s the plot:
You go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (month and day). Then you write down 3 events, 2 births, 1 holiday, and tag 5 friends. There are five slots in the meme list. If you are tagged, you have to remove the name in the first slot and bump everyone up so that your name can be added to the bottom. Like all of these things, participation is optional.
Here’s the list:
Comedy Plus
TwistedSister…
Ugly Mailbox
Earnest Parenting
Scraps of Mind
On my birthday (May 1)
3 Events
- 1786 – Opening night of the opera The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Vienna, Italy. (Hope to see that one soon, although I believe the composer might not be attending).
- 1840 – The Penny Black, the first official adhesive postage stamp, was issued in the United Kingdom. As a Collectoholic (including stamp collecting) I felt bound to include this momentous event in the list.
- 1886 – The start of the general strike which eventually wins the eight-hour workday in the United States. These events are today commemorated as May Day or Labor Day in most industrialized countries. How could I not include this?
2 Births
- 1852 – Calamity Jane, American Wild West performer (d. 1903)
- 19XX – ME!!!!
1 Holiday
- Roman Empire – all-female festival in honour of Bona Dea. Go Girls!!
Well now both you and I know more about my birthday than before.
If any of you would like to be tagees (that is, of course, professional meme jargon) feel free to pick this up and run with it.

Very interesting! I’m quite curious about 1 May since that is my wedding anniversary!
Well I think 1 May is a big day all round. It is strongly associated with the Socialist movement, it was fertility festival (hence dancing around the Maypole) and of course, I was born.
