Scrapbooking Hits the Road
I was reading yesterday that the Dodge motor company has just launched its new Grand Caravan model at a Scrapbook
Convention in Orlando, Florida. And for the launch it organised a new Guiness Book of Records achievement for creating the largest ever photo album. Apparently this mega-album measures approximately 9 feet wide by 12 feet tall, contains 20 pages of photos and needs at least two adults to turn a single page! Completely overshadowing the previous record which was set in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and only measured a mere 7.8 feet tall by 3.9 feet wide; coffee table sized really.
Apparently when the new record attempt was announced a 72 hour scrapathon was organised with scrappers contributing to the album by creating oversized embellishments such as ribbons, stickers, buttons and stuff to go in the album.
But the thing that really tickled my fancy is that the Dodge Grand Caravan was pitched at Scrapbookers. It has second row seats that swivel 180 degrees to face the third row and a removable table that you can install between the two rows. There’s covered storage bins in the floor as well as uncovered storage and fold-in-the floor seating. And how cool is it that these were recognised as features that would appeal to crazy, mad, passionate scrapbookers?
“We embellished the Dodge Grand Caravan with 35 new and improved features, so it made sense to invite some of the world’s best scrapbookers to experience the new features of our minivan and add embellishments of their own to our giant photo album,” said Mike Accavitti, Director — Dodge Brand Marketing and Global Communications. “In addition to being a top performer in the minivan market, the all-new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan is setting the standard for storage and organization on the road. With its exclusive Swivel ‘n Go(TM) seating system and table, the Dodge Grand Caravan converts quickly and easily into the perfect scrapbooking space for busy scrapbookers ‘on the go.”
Now I know that Digital Scrapbooking has always been ’scrapbooking-to-go’, but there’s no two ways about it: when the motor industry pitches it’s new models at Scrapbookers, we can really say that Scrapbooking has come out of its ‘niche market’ category and is officially ‘Mainstream’
