Easy way to Get More Traffic to Your Blog

Welcome to Scraps of Mind. I'm delighted to see you. Why not check out the site, and if you like what you see, subscribe to my RSS feed and get daily updates delivered to you. If you're not sure what the RSS thing is, then check out this 'RSS made easy' post. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing more of you.

Most people who write Blogs would like to increase the readership of their blogs, right? Right. And Scrapbooking bloggers are no different.

Well here’s a cool and, more importantly, easy way to get more exposure for your blog.

blogrushInstall a BlogRush widget in your side bar and articles in your Blog’s RSS feed will appear in the widget on blogs all over the world. Without you having to do anything! If you’re wondering whether your blog has an RSS feed, I’m tipping the answer is “Yes,it does.” If you go to your blog home page and look at the end of the URL bar at the top of the screen you should see a tiny orange icon. Click that and you will be taken to your blog’s RSS URL.

Anyway back to the BlogRush Widget. This is a new gizmo just released for blogs. The idea is you install it in your sidebar and articles from blogs in the category you’ve nominated yourself for (I chose Hobbies. The next closest one would have been Art and Design) will appear in it. Readers who click on those links will open up a new window to view the articles on other blogs, but your blog will still stay open in their browser. The cool part is that your posts will be popping up in widgets on other peoples’ blogs who are in your category. The BlogRush Page has a video that explains how it all works better than me.

And if other bloggers decide to install the widget on their blogs and they click on your widget to sign up you will get ‘credits’ for them joining which translates into extra exposure for your blog. This is not a money thing! You do not need to lay down your credit card for anything. This is all about increasing the number of places that your blog posts can be seen and attracting fresh readers to your blog. Hopefully once they arrive there they will like what they see and become regular readers.

The thing that I particularly liked about this is that once you have installed the widget, you don’t have to do anything else. The widget will automatically get your posts and publish them. You don’t have to remember to submit anything. Easy Peasey. Just the thing for a busy scrapbooking blogger who doesn’t want to be having to remember stuff like this.

So there’s nothing to lose for you in this, and potentially a bunch of new readers to gain. I thought it was well worth trying out. So if you’re interested in giving it a go too, just pop over to www.blogrush.com and pick up your widget.

  2. Great ideas there, Karen.
My blog is a bit too personal (ie. not only about scrapbooking, but lots about my family life, etc) so I’m not keen to try and increase my traffic unless they are friends/family, or people who innocently stumble across my blog. But if I had a dedicated scrapbooking blog I would certainly try those tips! They sound really good.

  6. Fair point Hannah and Olga. I agree it’s not a big deal with a personal blog. I guess a lot of people use their personal blog for many things so it would be useful to some to increase their traffic. Besides. you get some interesting links in the widget for you to follow up too.
Corina and Tink, hope you get to see Scraps of Mind on your widget one day.

  8. good tip there Karen. Its something I am keen to try but it will have to wait until after I finish my study semester.
I am quite keen to increase traffic, and take my blog in another direction as such. just not sure where yet.

  9. I figured it was worth setting up Rachel and Janine, because it’s ’set and forget’. And anything that i don’t have to do extra stuff for has got to be good.

  10. This sounds great Karen… but it does say your blog needs to be a quality blog, so I don’t think mine qualifies. It’s more of a personal daily boring stuff blog.. lol But I’ll keep this in mind if I ever have a quality blog! lol
