Good point Colby. When you host a carnival you should do some moderation of the links.
Usually you will have some ‘trusted’ sources who you know will submit relevant links that are useful to readers. But for the other submissions you should click over and make sure they are the sort of content that fits with a Digital Scrapbooking Blog Carnival. It’s not much good if someone is submitting an article on toddler training into a digital scrapbooking carnival. And you should also be checking for spam.

Basically as the host all articles will go through you so you can weed out the inappropriate ones. You simply don’t publish them with the carnival, There’s no need to get involved in any communication with the submitter.

I enjoyed reading your article, but I have one question. When you host a blog carnival do you need to moderate the links people post or do you just trust your readers? I imagine you wouldn’t want poorly written articles or worse spam in your carnival.

Thanks Hummie. I suspect that many scrapbookers aren't aware of the benefits to themselves by being involved in the Blog Carnival. Hopefully this article will explain that and we can get more digital scrapbookers involved in it.

And good luck hosting your Carnival, Sol. I hosted the Digital Scrapbooking Blog Carnival last September just before I went on vacation and it was a lot of fun. All I had to do was write a post copying in all the details that had been sent through the submission form. The post practically wrote itself.

Good article.

I’m about to host my first Carnival. I agree with everything you say. It is a great source of traffic for the blog hosting the Carnival and also a good source of traffic for those posting articles. And, getting links from other blogs is great for your Technorati authority ranking.
