Where’s Your Favourite Place to Scrap?

Welcome to Scraps of Mind. I'm delighted to see you. Why not check out the site, you'll find a bunch of great scrapbooking and blogging articles, tips and tutorials on the Articles Page. And if you enjoy this or any other articles on Scraps of Mind, I'd really appreciate you giving them a thumbs up on StumbleUpon to share them with other Scrapbookers. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing more of you.

I saw a survey on Darren Rowse’s Problogger last week called ” Where is your favourite place to blog?”. Darren was asking his readers to tell him where they liked to write their blog entries: sitting at a desk, in front of the TV, in bed, or wherever.

And I thought “I wonder where Scraps of Mind readers do their scrapping.”

scrappinspace.jpgAs a traditional, digital and hybrid scrapbooker I like to have my own space in my study where my computer lives and I’m surrounded by all my traditional scrapbooking gear. I don’t use a laptop so, except for certain projects all my scrapbooking (and blogging) activity takes place there. And by the way, Tedward Bear is a dedicated scrapbooker too. although his first love is card making.

The windows tend to be in the shade from the morning onwards so the light isn’t as good as I’d like and I’m intending to move things around in the next few weeks. But here’s a view of what it looks like now.

At the moment my desk is positioned with my back sort of to the window and I want to change that. I thought now would be a good time to take a photo as the space is relatively tidy (must be a Christmas thing) and I know that it won’t last. As soon as I get the first project of the New Year underway it will look like a bomb site I’m afraid.

I like being at the other end of the house where I can’t easily be distracted. I know if I had a laptop I wouldn’t be very productive sitting in front of the TV or with others around me.

So how about you guys?

Do you traditional and hybrid scrapbookers out there have a dedicated scrapping space (and do you keep it looking neat and tidy in between projects)? Do you let your creativity overflow into your workspace and create attractive storage for your stash and decorate with your layouts?

Or do you comandeer a section of the dining room table or a corner of the kitchen? Where do you mostly do your scrapbooking?

And what about you digital scrapbookers. Do you use a laptop, and if so, where do you find yourself doing your best creative work? In bed? In front of the TV? Maybe at the kitchen counter?

It’s fun to think of the different places that each person can find to be creative in.

How about sharing your favourite scrapping place with us? And if you send me a photo, I’ll add it to this post.

  2. I have a playroom (there are just 2 of us in my house) so my table is covered with my lap top, printer, and scanner. In front of me is the big screen TV so I’m comfortable right here. Sometimes I will take my laptop in the bedroom so I can watch a movie on the HDTV with my husband but usually I spend ours in the playroom on my computer.

  3. I have a craft room where I do my scrapbooking, although all of it these days is done on the computer. I have to get it reorganized now that Christmas is over and I can move the toys out of the room. Still have to get shelves for the closet and more shelves for the walls. Soon I hope, but then I have been saying that for nearly a year now, LOL.

You can see pictures of it here:

  4. I am fortunate enough that we have a HUGE spare double bedroom at the front of our house, which gets lots of sun and is close to the living area. It serves 3 purposes … a bit more than half of the room is my kids’ playroom / I have my computer desk in one corner, this is where I work from home every day / the other 1/4 of the room is for my scrapbooking. I have a huge big desk and lots of shelves, and it’s directly behind my computer so I can easily switch between the 2.
My kids are very good and have been taught not to touch my things. They never do. Their play area is just next to me when I’m working or scrapping, so I can keep an eye on them. I’m not distracted by the noise of their playing, I can write (work) with them in here (as long as they’re not fighting!) and of course I enjoy scrapping when they are in here, they often come over and look at what I’m doing and ask questions.

I love your scrap space - very neat & tidy. And Ted is a definite CUTE addition to the room!

  5. You laptop girls do have the advantage of portability Pat. Sometimes I’m tempted to go that route, we’ll see when it’s time for the next upgrade.

I checked out your scrap space Tink. I really like the lilac walls. It looks like a lovely fresh light area.

As for you Hannah, it sounds like you have a near perfect set up. I think we can all take a few moments to have a little green moment now.

  6. Well I just moved in for the most part but my work space will be the basement area. I have a fairly good amount of space to spread out. I see we have the same fondness for corner desk units. I have one that fits into the corner too. I am a person who likes to be able to pull from the right and left side of me as I am working. So having workspace on either side of me is great.

  7. BTW I don’t scrapbook but I still have design program manuals and such that I have to make reference to from time to time so as I said above it is nice to be able to have work space on either side of me.

  8. Yeah I like the corner desk too Joe. But I have my back to the window which is not the best. I’m working on reconfiguring the room to give me more light.

  9. My favorite place is in restaurants with wi-fi internet connection.

It’s not so boring compare to blogging at home when I am surrounded with people (even though I don’t know them) :)

  10. I wanted to warn you about getting to close to the window. My desk is pushed up against the window, which at first I liked (plus it was the only place it fit). Then I started getting a lot of eye strain from too much light. Now I keep the shade partially closed. So while a lot of light is great for doing any close work, it doesn’t help to have it right in your face. Lesson learned.

  11. Thanks for the warning AM. My study faces East and has a verandah awning over the windows. So it’s not blessed/cursed by excessive light. And that’s part of my problem. The room becomes quite dark once the morning sun has moved on. But I won’t forget your warning.
