Australian Doll of the Year 2007

A few months ago I introduced you to my friend Doreen who is not only an awesome quilter, but she makes the most incredible fantasy dolls as well.

And here is her latest award winning doll, Merridae.

Merridae is a bit extra special because she has just won ‘Doll of the Year’ at the Australian Cloth Doll Association. So Yaaay Doreen!

If you’d like to see more of these wonderful creations check out the Australian Cloth Dolls Association web site. Merridae won the November award and then took out the overall Doll of the Year. And the incredible thing is that Doreen doesn’t think she is her best work. She favours Olaf for that title, but he had already won awards so he wasn’t allowed to enter for this competition.

But more thanmerridae-cittern.jpg being just a gorgeous looking doll is the conditions under which Merridae was made that astound me. She was made on a ‘Mystery Doll Weekend’, where everyone has to make the same doll. Each doll maker has to design their own costume and part of the challenge was swapping fabric and trims and working with fellow doll makers. The theme became ‘Who am I?’

Merridae is a Celtic musician. And Doreen also made her cittern from scratch.

When I think how long it takes me to make a scrapbook layout, I can’t believe that Doreen designed and made this beautiful doll, capable of winning Doll of the Year, in less than a week end!

No doubt about it Doreen. You Rock!!
