Scrapbooking Your Recipes

I’ve started a series of Guest Writers on Scraps of Mind. This is a great opportunity for Scraps of Mind readers to see some of the great ideas and talent of other Scrapbookers and also an opportunity for other Scrapbooking Writers to showcase their work to other Scrapbookers.
Our first Guest Writer is Monique from Monique’s Scrappin’ Blog. When you’ve enjoyed her article, why not click over and check out her blog?

Hi, my name is Monique and I’m here to talk to you about scrapbooking your recipes. I’ll talk to you about why I scrap my recipes, what sizes are popular for scrapping recipe pages, and what you can do with them once they’re scrapped. I’ll also tell you about how I go about scrapping them and finally I will provide you with some inspiration to help get you started. Sound like fun? Great, then let’s get started!

Why Scrapbook recipes?

The first thing you might ask if you’ve never scrapbooked a recipe is why?

Well, you scrapbook your photos and memories for future reference, enjoyment and for future generations to enjoy right? Then why not scrapbook your recipes for future generations too? Wouldn’t you be overjoyed to receive a beautiful collection of your mother or grandmother’s recipes? Then why not do the same for your children? Read the rest of this entry »

How to Make Word Art - Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial

Since I started the Scraps of Mind Weekly Word Art Newsletter I’ve had a number of people ask me how I make my Word Art.

So I’ve put together this video tutorial for you so you can have a go at making your own. Word Art is a lot of fun to make and can be as complicated or as simple as you choose your design to be.

I hope that you enjoy the video tutorial and try making your own. And please don’t let that prevent you from signing up to the Word Art Newsletter and getting 3 pieces of original Word Art Design delivered to your inbox each week. You can build a great Word Art Collection and you’ll never be lost for a Scrapbook Layout title, journaling accent or a message in a greeting card.

I recommend that rather than viewing the YouTube version, if you have a reasonably good Internet connection, you click on the High Resolution version which is much easier to watch than the YouTube one.

Click here to watch the High Resolution Version of this Tutorial.

If you like this tutorial, please give it a Stumble and maybe click over to YouTube and give it a rating.

And don’t forget to sign up to the Newsletter if you haven’t already done so.

Does Scrapbooking have a ‘Use By’ Date?

I read this article by Linda Fantin today and it got me thinking.

In the article Linda examines the ‘lifespan’ of Scrapbooking as a hobby and whether it is here for the long haul or just a current fad.

Now before we all throw up our arms in disgust and threaten the computer monitor with extreme violence, there are some thought provoking arguments in this article.

One of the points she raises is that as she has built up a very substantial scrapbooking stash over the years (and don’t we all love scrapbook shopping; both digital and traditional) she has found that she’s almost intimidated by the amount of scrapbooking supplies that she has and finds she doesn’t tend to do as much actual scrapbook layout creation as she once did.

Ouch! This one hit a bit of a chord with me. I don’t do as much traditional scrapbooking as I used to these days, but of course I can’t pass a scrapbooking shop without going in and browsing and buying yet more stuff for my stash.

And as a Digital Scrapbooker, my stash of Freebies collected over the years is intimidating. I find it takes me forever to select what kits and elements I want to use and if I were to be brutally honest, I reckon that I have never used over 80% of the stuff I have stored in my folders, because I tend to gravitate to favourite kits and elements.

But the point that created most concern in my mind was this: Read the rest of this entry »

Australian Doll of the Year 2007

A few months ago I introduced you to my friend Doreen who is not only an awesome quilter, but she makes the most incredible fantasy dolls as well.

merridae2.jpg

And here is her latest award winning doll, Merridae.

Merridae is a bit extra special because she has just won ‘Doll of the Year’ at the Australian Cloth Doll Association. So Yaaay Doreen!

If you’d like to see more of these wonderful creations check out the Australian Cloth Dolls Association web site. Merridae won the November award and then took out the overall Doll of the Year. And the incredible thing is that Doreen doesn’t think she is her best work. She favours Olaf for that title, but he had already won awards so he wasn’t allowed to enter for this competition.

But more than being just a gorgeous looking doll is the conditions under which Merridae was made that astound me. She was made on a ‘Mystery Doll Weekend’, where everyone has to make the same doll. Each doll maker has to design their own costume and part of the challenge was swapping fabric and trims and working with fellow doll makers. The theme became ‘Who am I?’

merridae-cittern.jpgMerridae is a celtic musician. And Doreen also made her cittern from scratch.

When I think how long it takes me to make a scrapbook layout, I can’t believe that Doreen designed and made this beautiful doll, capable of winning Doll of the Year, in less than a week end!

No doubt about it Doreen. You Rock!!
