How to Make a Secret Compartment in a Book

Welcome to Scraps of Mind. I'm delighted to see you. Why not check out the site, and if you like what you see, subscribe to my RSS feed and get daily updates delivered to you. If you're not sure what the RSS thing is, then check out this 'RSS made easy' post. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing more of you.

Here’s a cool way to make a gift box.

Turn an old (not valuable) book into a box!

And it’s not a bad place to hide secret stuff too. Sit it on your book shelf amongst your other books and the burglars will never know Great Aunty Beryl’s pearls are stashed inside.

Check out the video.

I particularly love the way this guy improvised his glue brush. He obviously went to McGyver School.

Actually, I might give this a try…if I can overcome my horror of defacing a book.

Saturday Scrapbooking Ideas

Saturday Scrapbooking Idea #7

When you don’t feel that you can find the right words to express your journaling, turn to quotation from other people for the answer to your dilema.

Always remember to cite your source as that is just common courtesy and I think it also adds weight to your quotation.

Just Google ‘quotation subject’ (substituting the topic you want a quotation about fro the word ’subject) and you’ll find a plethora of web sites that will be able to fill your need.

And if you want something a bit fancier, why not sign up for the free Scraps of Mind Weekly Word Art Newsletter and build a library of quotations for scrapbooking and cardmaking in great display presentation formats.

Five Freebies on Friday 28 March 2008

As we head into the Easter Break it’s time for Five Freebies on Friday. Some more great scrapbooking freebies for you to enjoy

Make sure you leave some love when you download your freebie. Just a simple thank you comment makes all the difference to the designer who will have put a lot of time and effort into creating your freebie.

  1. For a very cool overlay and a cute little mini kit called Grafitti in rich purples scurry over to Cen’s Loft. And she’s got a great challenge happening with the overlay too.
  2. Rusticana is the name of a cool kit at JenLin Designs that would be perfect for masculine layouts.
  3. There’s a tasty little kit called Aqua Black Envy being offered by Kimberly at Starscraps. Just scroll down the page and make sure you pick up all the components. UPDATE: Aqua Black Envy seems to have been replaced by the Grunge Girlfriends Kit. But still worth hopping over to check it out.
  4. If you want to try making your own textures, Texture Archive have a great library of photos for you to work with.
  5. And Kimi Kreations has made this cute brush in the shape of a grungy tag.
