Thank you for the kind words Olga. It lovely to know that others agree with letting out scrapbook pages tell the whole story. I really glad that you enjoyed the article.

It's true that scrapping not only has to be about happy moments and about others, it's something we do and we should feel and scrap what we feel and that not always is happy or nice. Good and bad experiences are what make us and we should be aware of them and be able to deal with them comfortably and yes it's true that it could be very therapeutic for some people.

It's a nice and good article, June, thanks so much for sharing it.

Best wishes. :O)

I agree Gabrielle that people often feel they have to smile no matter what as it's what's expected and that we all should have the opportunity to be able to express the full range of things that happen to us and the emotions we feel. We none of us have perfect lives and yes, the worst situations really can bring out the best in us..not always at the time..but all of life is a learning curve and we learn from the good as well as the bad.
I think you've just invented a new phrase "truth scrapping" I will use that phrase in future as I think it acurately describes how we could all have a more balanced scrapping album! Thank you!!

June, hats off to you for broaching a subject that is normally swept under the carpet! If only we found it acceptable to talk about our disappointments in life, as freely as we do about our joys, maybe our children would be growing in a more caring world. Personally I think this 'modern' need to be accepted by all and sundry, drives us more and more into ourselves. We are teaching our children to turn a 'happy' face to the outside while research has shown that children today are the unhappiest they have ever been. Your suggestion about scrapping each part of our lives is exactly what we should do. I have read the other wonderful comments above and it is SO GOOD to hear about real lives. Surely this is what memory making is about. Embracing all facets of our lives so that the truth, good and not so good will be there for future generations, and always remember, even the worst of situations usually brings out the best in someone.
To everyone above, mention the idea of 'truth scrapping' to your friends. You will probably be surprised at how many were only waiting for someone else to 'roll the ball'. June has.
Love to you all Gabrielle xx

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this. I am glad that other people feel the same way or that having read the article may think about doing some layouts like this in the future. It is lovely to read your comments, thank you so much for taking the time to let me know what you thought. I know that life is full and rich, so much a mixture of events and emotions, lets make our scrapbook show a glimpse of them all to save a balance picture of the wonderful people we are. Don't let part of your life slip by unacknowledged!! Thanks again!

This is a wonderful article! I totally agree, Every experience good and bad make us who we are. I just scrapped a memorial album for friend Marsha's little boy Tyler who was killed by a drunk driver. And even though Tyler was not my son I loved him very much and he was a part of our family. It was hard to do the album, but it made me feel as though I was doing something to preserve his memory...My daughter was 3 months old when Ty died and his brother Micah was getting ready to turn two. Micah isn't going to have all those memories we have but he will have his scrapbook and all the stories he hears about having the best big brother in the world!

Great article June! And really gives me something to think about. The bad times are part of us also and help to make us who we are. I have some new ideas for future LO's.

I've been scrapping for many years now, I tend to do a lot of journalling on my pages, so it was only natural for me to include the sad & bad times on my pages. I'd been told by a few that it was a little off putting seeing these 'other' pages in among my lovely pages and that I shouldn't really focus on those things...but like you I feel they are part of what happens to us all, just like the fun and good times and deserve to be recorded as well. I like the idea of using landscape photos or even cat/dog photos. For me, when journalling about the death of a loved one, I tend to use photos of the things that meant a great deal to the person, for example yellow roses were my Mother's passion, my sister was a cop and loved her job with every ounce of her being, so it was only right to use photos of things representing a cop. When my Aunt died suddenly only a few weeks before her first grandchild was born, I asked everyone at the funeral to write down at least one of their most cherished memories of my Aunt...it was incredible the storys they told, some that none of us in the family had known about. It's true the sad and bad times happen, and you are right, it needn't be morbid or in bad taste to record these events...to have a balanced life one needs both good and bad, so why not have those both recorded in our albums...afterall, without the bad times we'd never truly appreciate those good times, right? I loved your article June, way to go hun, keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more articles from you! xxx

Excellent article June. Thank you. While my grands probably will hate me for it later, I do try and scrap their various moods and quirks. I seem to be adept at getting pictures of the Princess when she is being whiny, moody or just down right ugly, LOL.
