How to Make a Secret Compartment in a Book

Here’s a cool way to make a gift box.

Turn an old (not valuable) book into a box!

And it’s not a bad place to hide secret stuff too. Sit it on your book shelf amongst your other books and the burglars will never know Great Aunty Beryl’s pearls are stashed inside.

Check out the video.

I particularly love the way this guy improvised his glue brush. He obviously went to McGyver School.

Actually, I might give this a try…if I can overcome my horror of defacing a book.

  3. Yes I know what you mean Antoinette.

I have a bunch of tutorials on how to make altered books. And I love the look of them and want to do one.
But you have to start with defacing the book…..

  4. I made one of these this year as a present for my nephew for Christmas. I made it into a Harry Potter Herbology book, with a secret compartment of herbs and potion making equipment. I made little glass vials of herbology herbs (dried mint leaves, kitchen spices, etc.), phoenix tears, dragons lashes, floo powder, and eye of newt (tiny polymer clay eyeballs). It was the funnest (and most time consuming) present I have made in awhile. I was glad when it was a big hit!
