Thanks everyone. Sounds like a resounding endorsement for WordPress.
I don’t want to imply the other platforms are rubbish because that would be a stupid assertion since the only other platform I have used is Blogger.

But the scope for whatever you might want to do with your blog in the future is so much greater with WordPress.

Oh and did I mention security?

Hi Karooch, I would absolutely recommend Wordpress for beginners. It's so easy to learn even for tech challenged people like me. There're also more tutorials, themes and other cool stuff for wordpress platforms than for the others. I would have been completely lost if I wasn't on Wordpress. Whilst everyone seems to be keen on making money, its often overlooked that if blogging is just a hobby its relatively cheap to switch to Wordpress.org. With hosting and domain name you're looking at only $75+ a year. You can spend hours and hours just tinkering with themes and plugins (like people with big boats that never go to sea, but keep polishing the brass!). Few hobbies are that cheap! So, I take it WordPress is more secure? ) Very nice post. I agree with you. I think if anyone would give themselves a little time to get over the learning hump, they will find WordPress infinitely preferable to Blogger, etal.
