Step by Step Digital Scrapbook - learn how to digital scrapbook
I have been making mention over the last couple of weeks of a new website I’ve set up to help beginner digital scrapbookers learn how to digital scrapbook.
So I thought it was time I ‘came out of the closet’ and told you all about it.
For some time I’ve been getting comments from people who are interested in the no mess, creative approach to scrapbooking that is one of the benefits of digital scrapbooking.
Some of them are paper scrapbookers who are finding it difficult to deal with the workspace and storage needs of paper scrapbooking. Some are people who would like to create scrapbooking layouts but don’t really want to get into the paper, scissors and glue scenario.
There are many tutorials around showing digital scrapbooking techniques … I’ve made some of them myself.
But none of them seem to address the needs of the absolute newbie: the person who isn’t comfortable with using graphics editing programs and who doesn’t know the terminology that has grown up around digital scrapbooking.
So I decided to do something about it.
I’ve set up a web site at Step by Step Digital Scrapbook which is all about helping newbies get started in digital scrapbooking.
There is a whole bunch of information and videos there to help you get started. And if you want some more personal coaching and ‘hand holding’ assistance on your digital scrapbooking journey, you can join my Mentoring Program.
What’s The Mentoring Program?
The Step by Step Digital Scrapbook Mentoring Program is designed specifically to help new digital scrapbookers along their journey of discovery.
It is based on weekly eclasses which give you video tutorials to teach you new skills and show you how to apply them. All the digitals scrapbooking kits you need to make the demonstrated layouts are included with the eclass. As well as lots of extra tips and tricks and regular feedback on your progress.
The approach doesn’t bombard you with heaps of new stuff at one time. It teaches you a few key new techniques each week and helps you to build your skills easily and with no pressure. Creating great layouts along the way.
I wanted to do something a bit extra for Scraps of Mind Readers. So I’m offering the first 30 people who join my Mentoring Program some extra hand-holding help from me. You’ll 15 x 20 minute one on one sessions to discuss your particular digital scrapbooking challenges.

I’m pretty excited about this as you can tell and I think I’ve created something that can help a lot of people get into a hobby that they can do without needong lots of supplies or a large space to store their stuff and work on their layouts. It’s really great for Mums with small kids etc.

I don’t know where you find the time Karen! You must work 24-7! Congrats on the new adventure, I’m sure it’ll be a great success. The only sad thing is that this wasn’t available when I started DS

That’s a neat idea, but I don’t think it’ll ever replace the traditional kind. Digital would make it a lot easier to share, put together, and everything, but the sentimental factor is a lot less. Just doesn’t make quite the same gift as a handmade one.

I understand where you’re coming from Jaques23, although I don’t entirely agree.
There’s no reason why we should have to choose one or the other. I do both paper and digital scrapbooking and my favorite layouts tend to be the hybrid ones where I combine techniques from both types.
Scrapbooking is good, however you do it.

Thanks a lot Antoinette. I don’t know where I find the time either. I try not to think about it too much so it doesn’t overwhelm me.
Yeah I know what you mean about wishing there was something like this available when I started digital scrapbooking too. That’s one of the reasons I decided to do it.
I fluffed around for so log learning things the slow and hard way. It would have been so much more fun if I had someone to hold my hand and guide me through. Hopefully I can do that for others now.

I just finished taking a look… it’s a wonderful site. I love how your personal intro starts up as soon as the page loaded. It was a very nice surprise. I will also be “stumbling” on this! Now don’t laugh too hard at me… but is there a math error on your “Join” screen… (I probably have the math wrong on my side… but I thought I’d mention it just in case I finally added 2 and 2 together correctly for once). I had calculated out $9 per week as $39 per month… the Join page says $49 (if the math isn’t wrong I probably overlooked a simple explanation that was in big bold print… if that’s the case… you may want to put more emphasis on the “explaining” text… there are probably others out there as dense as I am!) Good luck in your new venture. If I ever overcome my number one obstacle to scrapbooking (poor prioritization) I look forward to taking advantage of your mentorship program to get me off on the right foot. Thank you for all you do!!

That’s a really cool and wonderful idea and exactly what was missing for the total newbie ! I got so many questions on the ‘how to start’ subject, I think you really are on to something

Thank you so much Brigitte. It really bugged me that newbies had to thrash around on their own until the managed to master the fundamental techniques they needed. And I reckon that a lot of folk would had given up before they got there. which is a loss for both them and the digital scrapbooking world.
So the only answer seemed to be to to domeshing about it!
