Often we choose our scrapbook layout topics through the inspiration of a particular photo. More often than not it’s a photo of a family member or friend, or sometimes of a special event such as a birthday party or a child’s concert.
But what about all the silly little bits and pieces that go to make up everyday life?
The way you just have to get outside of that first cup of coffee before you can even open your mouth to speak to anyone in the morning. The way that you always talk to your cyclamen when you’re watering it. The way you always make sure that the colors of the clothes pegs match when you’re hanging up the clothes. And all the hundred and one little things that go towards making the pattern of your life.
Now whilst you probably don’t want to make a scrapbook layout for each and every one of your (or your family’s) idiosyncrasies, it can be a refreshing change in your family scrapbook album to occasionally create a layout to commemorate one of these silly little things that are actually a very important part of your life and who you are.
And it doesn’t have to be something you do. How about that dreadful sweater that your husband/partner absolutely adores (and you probably hate) that’s so worn and threadbare but he insists has got plenty of years of wear left in it? Why not try a scrapbook layout about that. It then becomes a perfect springboard for some other great journaling about him and your relationship and feelings for each other. Sometimes it’s easier to say the meaningful things if we dress them up in a bit of silliness first.
So why not give it a try yourself? Why not share with us what silly things you have created scrapbook layouts for? I’m looking forward to some fun comments on this one.
After all, everyone needs a little silliness in their life.

What a great post! In fact I just did a layout of my husband busting his butt while we waited for the plumber to fix our busted pipe. I was wondering if this was a stupid idea to scrap this but now I feel better. (it was funny now that I know he wasn’t seriously hurt).
Pats last blog post..If I Only Had Courage
And that’s exactly the sort of thing we need to scrap more of Pat.
A great original idea, Karen, thanks for that, I’ll have to have a go for this week’s Scrapbook Saturday post and see what I can come up with
Look forward to seeing the result Charmaine Zoe.
I just saw an article about scrapbooking events when you have no pictures and am planning to do a few on some really funny and silly things. I broke my toe during a blackout in a blizzard. It was stuck at a complete 90 degree angle. Everyone in the ER was feeling sorry for me(it didn’t even hurt much) and all I wanted was for someone to take a picture! I know they thought I was crazy!
The other event took place when my son-in-law was taking care of his two young kids for a while. He went upstairs for a few minutes and came down to discover a real mess. My granddaughter(18 months) had crawled into a laundry basket, removed her very stinky diaper and then proceeded to paint the whole room in “poo”! I would have given anything to see the look on his face!! These are just two “pictureless” ideas I’m working on plus with your idea I have several more ideas. Guess I can be pretty silly at times but hey, life is never dull around here!!
I love silly, Laura. I think it’s the spice of life. They sound like two topics for great layouts. But they don’t have to be pictureless. You can take a photo of some medical apparatus or the dressings from your toe for the first one and maybe a packet of diapers together with a painting brush for the second.
I agree totally!!! I do this but I don’t do it with things. I scrapbook the usual events in life, but I do a lot of scrapbooking the “everyday” moments in life. My youngest son is 2 and he is a clown and always the center of attention. He is always making funny faces and they are so original to him. So one day I took all sorts of pictures of him and his faces and I plan to scrapbook them. I’ll have to get back to you all when I get around to it.
Hey that sounds like a really cool idea Sherry. And it’ll be a great feature at his 18th birthday. Looking forward to seeing the layout.
I love doing silly photos! I really just scrapbook pictures I love. They can be silly or they can be serious. I have a photo that I want to scrapbook soon – of the kids at the adoption site being kissed by our puppy.
leslies last blog post..what the hell have I gotten myself into?
Yey Leslie. I know you too enjoy silly things. I reckon it’s what puts the spark in life, don’t you?
I was visiting my parents one day and was on my hands and knees cleaning up a mess my young daughter had made. I happened to look up and I was amazed at the view from that height. Lets just say it lead me to scrapping a page called “Views from a Rear View Mirror” After I did that my family did everything they could do to make sure that I couldn’t catch them in a “rearend” shot. It’s become a contest between my sister and I to see who can collect the most unique shot!
That sounds like a really fun layout Kathy. And that’s what it’s all about I reckon.
