Texture Tuesday

Join Wildheart of Wildheart’s Works for this week’s edition of Texture Tuesday. Wildheart is a Paintshop Pro expert, but I know you’ll enjoy the tips and tricks even if you’re not a PaintShop Pro user. And you’ll find plenty of ideas to help you work with textures in your own program.

Creating a Torn Edge with Paint Shop Pro

This week finds me at a site Blog.spoongraphics checking out a tutorial meant for photoshop but alas I had to cross test it in paint shop pro.

I opened up a white layer at 600 by 600 then took the lasso selection tool. I traced a line across the layer. When I was finished I then went into my color, gradient and pattern selections and decided to use one of the vintage textures I acquired a few months ago. I flood filled the area with the texture.

After this was done I took a round brush 5 pixels in diameter and an opacity of 50% with a color of R:192, G:192, B:192 and proceeded to make an edge at the top of the vintage texture.

I took the magic wand tool and selected the white space then flood filled it with a textured color of #6a8073 crumpled paper.

I wanted to apply one more textured effect to make it stand out a bit more so I went into effects texture crumpled paper and chose a color of #d0d2c9. I set the size to 152 the Depth to 1 , Ambience to 4 , Shininess to 76, Angle to 118, Intensity to 46 and Elevation to 23.

One last thing I wanted to do was make the edge of the vintage a little softer so I took a medium sized soften brush and ran it along the edge of the vintage edge.

This was an interesting challenge but I knew I could do it. It looks like someone decoupaged the torn vintage paper onto the green texture beneath it.
