Use the empty spaces on your photos for journaling.
Even if it’s just the date of the photo it can really help to create a strong link between the photo and the rest of your layout.
And if you have enough space on your photo some relevant journaling about the subject or a quote can really look spiffy and help disguise a dull background.

I’ve always wondered about scrapbooking online with sites like flickr and things like that. How long will your files stay on those sorts of places. is it really all that permanent. I like th eidea of actually making an album of memories.

As far as I know Paunchiness, there is no ‘use-by’ date on Flickr. Your pic stay there as long as you have a valid account with them. I’ve had pics on Flickr for over two years now.
