Scrapbooking with Lots of Photos

I always find that doing scrapbook layouts of events can be a real challenge. There are always a mass of photos to choose from and so many of them contribute to the story.

But how to fit them onto the scrapbook layout is the challenge.

I’ve been scrapping single photo layouts for so long now that I tend to struggle a bit with the idea of lots of photos on a scrapbook layout.

Well let’s take a look here at some ideas for ways to include lots of photos on your scrapbook layouts.

Lots of Photos on Paper Scrapbook Layouts

  • Turn your layout into a double page spread. Choose one photo for the feature and cut down the remainder to a smaller size so you can arrange them in a group on the second page.
  • Use a grid format for your design. Divide your layout into squares and cut your photos, journaling and embellishments to fit into the grid. Don’t forget, you can make some of your photos large enough to take up two sections of the grid so that the layout isn’t just a series of squares.
  • Make a mini-book and add your extra photos in it. You can also include some of your journaling. A concertina mini-book, similar to the one I made for the O Christmas Tree scrapbook layout, is simple and quick to make. Just glue the back page to your scrapbook layout (remember not to put a photo there) and hold it closed with a photo slide.

Lots of Photos on Digital Scrapbook Layouts

  • It’s a lot easier to incorporate more photos on a digital scrapbook layout as you can easily adjust the size of your photos to fit into the space you want them to take. But I recommend doing some cropping first or you will have a bunch of photos that are too tiny to see properly.
  • The double page spread option also works here. You can create a 24×12 file to create your layout and when you’re done, use the marquee tool to ‘cut’ it into two separate page files. Or you can create two 12×12 files and load them side by side into your workspace so you get an overall view of your double page layout design as you’re creating it.
  • Use photo negative frame elements to turn your supporting photos into a great accent as I have done with this Beleura Beauty scrapbook layout. This works especially well if your photos show a sequence of events or actions.

I hope that some of these ideas will help you rise to the challenge of creating scrapbook layouts with lots of photos.

  2. I am always so impressed when I come here, even though I don’t do scrapbooking. I love the ideas you have, and you make me want to try it. I just don’t know know if I’d have the patience for it??

also, I left you something over at my blog….congrats!

  3. Thank you Kat. I really appreciate your kind words. I don’t think you’d have much of a problem with finding the patience for scrapbooking. After all you already create candles and jewelry. I would think that takes lots more patience than scrapbooking. So why not give it a try and see how you go.

And thank you so much for the award.

  4. I prefer digital scrapbooks because it is easier to add a lot of photos. It is a bit more time consuming with the Photoshopping but it is worth it when it is done. My family loves my e-scrapbooks. Regards!

  5. I tend to try and use a lot of photos on my pages, finding it more difficult to use just one, LOL. Nowadays there are tons of multi-photo templates that are available.

  6. That’s true Tink. And digital scrapbooking does make it so much easier to use lots of photos and still have a good looking layout design. The templates just make it that much easier.
