High Tea - glimpses of a gentler age
I have to admit, I do enjoy a good afternoon tea.
In Australia we like our afternoon break for tea, with perhaps a little smackerel something to stave off the hunger pangs until dinner time. And if we’re holding a daytime celebration of an event, you just can’t go past a good morning or afternoon tea; complete with sandwiches and cakes and possibly sausage rolls. It’s a tradition passed on to us from the English and we’re hanging on to it.
And yesterday my daughter Seona and I had a special afternoon tea: High Tea at the Queen Victoria Building Tearooms in the centre of Sydney. And what a lovely relaxing experience it was.
I’ve had tea at the Ritz in London and I have to say, I enjoyed this far more. The lovely Art Deco surroundings, the gentle quiet atmosphere, the sumptuous velvet upholstered armchairs, the silver service and the Royal Albert Old Country Roses tea set all created the perfect setting for two ladies of leisure to spend a couple of hours in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Sydney.
As we sat and enjoyed our delicious finger sandwiches and our melt in the mouth tiny quiches, not to mention the scones and array of tiny cakes, we sipped our tea and felt the world slip away. Perfect.
So if you’re ever looking for something a little special to share with your sisters or close girlfriends (I don’t think it’s really a guy thing), find somewhere that understand the elegance of a proper High Tea and refresh your spirit with a couple of hours from another era.

Highlights from Scraps of Mind
Last week we explored the question Do you Scrap with One or Multiple Photos. Click over and read about the preferences of Scraps of Mind readers. And maybe share your own thoughts.
And if you took the Scraps of Mind Survey a few weeks ago on what kind of scrapbooker you are, you might be interested to check out the results. I thought they showed some interesting trends.
And despite her sinus headache problems, Wildheart managed to pull together some interesting textures for you in her weekly column.
