Hi, and welcome to this week’s Scraps of Mind Weekly Word Art Newsletter.

Alert newsletter reader Denise has highlighted to me that one of the Word Arts pieces in an earlier newsletter linked to the wrong file. So I’ve repeated it here for those of you who might still want to grab this piece but might not have liked to point out the error to me. And by the way, if you do spot an error in any of the newsletters I really would appreciate you letting me know.

As long as we both shall live

My niece Jessica was married last Saturday. She looked a vision in ivory (although to be frank, she is blessed with the figure and face that would have looked a vision in a a trenchcoat), and the ceremony was held at a lovely country place with log fires and blackened timber rafters. It was a beautiful wedding.

Something the minister said in his service struck a chord and I thought I would share it with you. He pointed out that although the words of the vows say “…as long as we both shall live”, the way most people actually conduct their relationships today means that we interpret them to mean “…as long as we both shall love”. In other words we are saying “I shall love you as long as I love you. And after that, it’s time to move on.”

And I wondered how much of our high divorce statistic is based on a subliminal thinking that we don’t have to try. Whilst the love comes easy it’s all good. But when it starts to get tough do we think of marriage as being a disposable commodity?

It’s a delicate balance I think. We certainly want the freedom not to remain trapped in a situation that is untenable and fraught with unhappiness. But on the other side of the coin, have we skewed our thinking so that we go into marriage with the thought that if it doesn’t work out, we can always get out easily?

I hope that’s not the case, or I’m not sure what that says for our future.

I know that looking at Jessica and Jamie on Saturday, glowing in the happiness of their Wedding Day, they are firmly committed to each other and to building a successful union through the years. And the stars in their eyes are based on practical reality. And I feel sure they will be able to share a happy future together as long as they both shall live.

Highlights from Scraps of Mind

Last week I had a lot of fun looking for budget and free ways you can organize and store your scrapbook and craft supplies. We all know that supplies can breed like rabbits and here are some ideas that won’t require you to spend a heap of money.

And I asked the question Do you Scrapbook for the Journey or the Destination to explore our different approaches to scrapbooking.

Are you a member of any social media sites? I invite you to share your profile addresses with other Scraps of Mind readers so we can share our love around. Increasing your friends will help your Internet profile and can improve your blog traffic as well as opening up a host of new contacts for you who share your interests.
