Hi, and welcome to this edition of the Scraps of Mind Word Art Newsletter.
This coming Sunday is Fathers’ Day in Australia. I realise that other parts of the world have already celebrated it a couple of months ago. But I guess we like to keep our Dads waiting a bit longer over here. Anyway that’s why the Word Art has such a Dad type flavour this week.
And speaking of ‘this week’ I’ve decided to change the frequency of the Newsletter to fortnightly. I know it doesn’t have the same ring as Weekly Word Art Newsletter, but I have so many projects on the go that I’ve decided to cut myself a little slack.

What Makes a Dad
I had planned to write a personal tribute to my Dad this week, but I’ve been battling one of these viral colds that seems to be plaguing pretty much everyone I know. And I’m finding it difficult to string enough words together to make a sensible sentence.
My Dad wasn’t a hero. He didn’t win awards and he didn’t rise above the pack.
But he took care of his family and and took pride in each of the achievements of his children. He worked two jobs to save enough money so we could emigrate to Australia. And never complained. His family was everything to him
And he was taken from us at the obscenely early age of 47.
There was never anyone else for my Mother.
My Dad was a Special Man because he was My Dad.
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,
He called it … Dad

Highlights from Scraps of Mind
Last week I had a rummage in the archives and found the ten most popular articles that have ever been published on Scraps of Mind. You can see the list here. I have to admit that a couple of them surprised even me.
And I’ve instigated an exclusive award. The Scraps of Mind Outstanding Commenter of the Month Award. This award will be presented each month to the most outstanding contributor to the Scraps of Mind Community. And I’ll be publishing the winner for August in the next few days. Only one of these trophies will be handed out each month so there will only ever be a handful of people eligible to display this award on their blogs. Make sure you’re in the running for September. And watch out for the August winner.
Last week Wildheart made a really interesting vintage texture. check out how she did it here.
And watch out this Thursday for the start of a super new series that will teach you how to create a scrapbook of your life. Kylie Moore has written this series as a course in which she will provide you with direction, tools and tips to create your own. And there will be homework!
