When you’re making your Christmas cards this year, don’t confine yourself to just the traditional Christmas pallet of Red, Green and Gold.
Christmas symbols such as stars, snowflakes, bells and Christmas trees look fantastic against a more modern background.
So have a rummage through your stash and try picking some more unusual color combinations for your cards this Christmas.

Sometimes the thought of creating a scrapbook album of someone’s life or maybe creating an album for an older child can seem daunting when you think of all the photos and events there are to go through.
Start scrapping the most recent events first. We tend to fall into the trap of feeling that we have to start at the beginning. But your memory of most recent events will obviously be better than of events longer ago. So your journaling will get the benefit of that.
Also, when you start at the beginning you always feel like you’re playing catch up. And that as events in your subject’s life keep happening you’ll never catch up to them. By starting with NOW and working backwards (whilst still keeping up to date with current events) your project won’t seem so daunting.

Sometimes it can be really hard to come up with just the right words for your journaling. You rack your brain but nothing seems to really work. Ever had that experience?
Well why not turn to your kids for the inspiration?
Ask them what their memories of the event in your photo are and use their word for your journaling. This is even more poignant if the photo is of them.

Create your own transparencies and overlays by applying paint to foam stamps and then stamping on acrylic transparency sheets.
Once dry, you can cut around the shapes and attach them to your layout using brads or glue dots. Make sure you place the glue dots behind areas of solid color or you’ll be able to see them from the front.
This is not as convenient or easy as using brushes in digital scrapbooking, but it’s a handy technique for your paper scrapbooking layouts.

Remember the Rule of Thirds when positioning your photo on your scrapbook layout.
It’s easy if you imagine a tic-tac-toe grid and try to place the eyes of the subject of your photo along one of the imaginary lines. And if you can get it as close to one of the intersection points as possible tat’s even better.
This will give a more powerful intensity to your focal photo.
