Why not try variations on traditional group photo of the family.
If you’re having the whole family over for an occasion, try posing them in several smaller groups rather than just in one large group.
You can then overlap the photos on your scrapbook layout for an interesting approach to the family group shot.

To give your brads (real life ones, not digital ones) a vintage or grungy look, hold the brad by its prongs and give it a rub with a piece of sand paper or an emery board.
Scratch the top a bit so it doesn’t look all fresh painted an new and rub a bit harder around the edges where you would expect to see the paint having worn off.

Many commercial birthday and Christmas cards that you receive from your friends and family will have very cool and pretty elements as part of their design. Things like embossed stars and flowers etc.
Try collecting these and cutting them out. You can then adhere them to a piece of cardstock and and cut around the outline, leaving about a quarter of an inch of card showing. Then use them as embellishments on your scrapbook layouts or hand made cards.
A great, no-cost scrapbook accent!

When you don’t feel that you can find the right words to express your journaling, turn to quotation from other people for the answer to your dilema.
Always remember to cite your source as that is just common courtesy and I think it also adds weight to your quotation.
Just Google ‘quotation subject’ (substituting the topic you want a quotation about fro the word ’subject) and you’ll find a plethora of web sites that will be able to fill your need.
And if you want something a bit fancier, why not sign up for the free Scraps of Mind Weekly Word Art Newsletter and build a library of quotations for scrapbooking and cardmaking in great display presentation formats.

Before you print out your digital layouts hide the layers with brads or ribbon bows.
Then replace them on the printed layout with ‘real’ brads or ribbon.
It’s a great way to add dimension and texture to your digital scrapbook layouts.
And oh My God! You’ve just become a Hybrid Scrapbooker.

Always try to group embellishments in odd numbers if you can.
The eye finds odd numbers more pleasing than even numbers for some reason.
So remember 3 and 5 are your friends!

Create a rustic or vintage look to your scrapbook layouts by inking around the outside of your background paper and matts.
Digital scrapbookers can create the same effect by choosing a ‘grungy’ brush and swiping it roughly around the edges of your digital scrapbook layout.
Choose brown tonings for your ink or brush colour to create an aged, slightly battered look.
This look works particularly well with black and white or sepia toned photos.
