Weekly Word Art Newsletter - 8 April 2008

Hi Everyone, and welcome to this week’s edition of the Scraps of Mind Weekly Word Art Newsletter.
And what blowy miserable weather we’ve had in Melbourne this week (and no, Sydnersiders, it’s not always like this). But let’s not dwell on Melbourne’s weather woes and let’s get stuck into the Newsletter.

Hot off the Press Girlfriends Getaway
It’s very rarely that I would go to a Crop.
Probably because my scrapbooking friends are all on the Internet. I don’t have any ‘real life’ scrapbookers that I can share my passion for this hobby with.
But the Hot off the Press Girlfriends Getaway is an outstanding exception to this.
I went along to the inaugural event last year. And you can read all about it here if you wish.
Paulette Jarvey and Sara Naumann, the President and VP Marketing from HOtP, come over to Australia once a year and hold these fabulous workshops. This year Paulette and her husband came on their own as Sara is living in Amsterdam for a while.
It’s a day of learning cool new techniques, making great projects and receiving heaps and heaps of scrapbooking supplies as giveaways.
All in the company of a bunch of kindred spirits and sustained by plenty of yummy food throughout the day.
This year I took my sister along and we had the best time.
Don’t know if any of you paper scrapbookers or card makers live in Melbourne or handy to it. But if you do I heartily recommend you get in touch with Birch Haberdashery and Craft who sponsor the event and put your name down for next year. It costs $100 for the day but you get more that that back in great HOtP supplies and then there’s the great lunch etc. and the fabulous fun entertainment and learnings.
I didn’t intend this to be a promotional piece for HOtP but it’s hard not to rave about this great event and want to share it with as many of my readers as possible.
I hardly do any paper scrapbooking nowadays (especially since my household has dramatically increased and I’ve lost my scrapbooking room). But this is one crop I wouldn’t want to miss.

Highlights from Scraps of Mind
The Scraps of Mind Yummy Treats Recipe Book is starting to gain some momentum. I bought a little webcam last week and made my first video to talk about it. Pop over to the article if you want see me and hear what I sound like. It was a bit freakiy making my first video but not so bad once I’d done it. And surprisingly easy too.
For those of you with blogs I’ve done a review of why I believe Wordpress should be your preferred blogging platform. If you blog, there there should be some interesting info in this article.
And I put a challenge to you to try making some scrapbook layouts of Nature subjects rather than only family and friends.
I received an email from Scraps of Mind Guest Writer, Joe Cheray this week. It had a cute expression in it that I just had to turn into Word Art. Don’t know if this is a Joe original or not, but she gets the credit for it anyway.
